  • Ensure that the emulsion tank and machine parts are physically and biologically clean before preparing the emulsion.
  • During mixing, oil should be added to water, water should not be added to oil.
  • Stirring should continue during addition.
  • For easier mixing, the water temperature should be around 20˚C.
  • After the oil addition is complete, the concentration should be checked and necessary adjustments made.
  • To ensure the homogeneity of the emulsion, continue mixing for at least 10 minutes before starting the process.
  • The date of preparation of the emulsion should be noted, samples should be taken and analyzed for later comparisons and the results should be filed.

REPLACEMENT OF METALWORKING EMULSIONS

  • When disposing of an emulsion that has reached the end of its effective life and preparing a new emulsion to replace it, it is extremely important to clean the system perfectly in order to obtain maximum performance and effective life from the new emulsion.
  • The emulsion tank, machinery and piping must be thoroughly cleaned physically and biologically before the new emulsion is introduced into the system.
  • Physical cleaning of the system, the emulsion tank, machinery and piping must be cleaned of sludge, dirt and debris of all kinds and, if necessary, a chemical detergent recommended by NOI Chemicals can be used.
  • The biological cleaning of the emulsion is the cleaning of the system from all kinds of bacteria, which is achieved by applying a disinfectant to every point where the emulsion can come into contact. This is done by circulating the disinfectant added to the emulsion for a certain period of time, as described in more detail below.
  • A small amount of prepared emulsion should be run empty to be placed in the machine and after the cleaning of the machine and lines is completed, this emulsion can be emptied and the process can be started by placing the entire prepared emulsion.

MAINTENANCE OF NOI CHEMICALS METALWORKING EMULSIONS

Emulsions need to be maintained at regular intervals to ensure high performance and long effective life during operation.

The concentration and pH values of the emulsions should be checked and recorded daily. pH can be measured with pH paper or digital pH meters. A pH paper can be used for daily pH measurements, but for detailed monthly tests a calibrated electronic meter should be used to obtain more accurate results.

Daily concentration tests can easily be performed using a refractometer. However, emulsions become contaminated with impurities as they are used and this can cause deviations in the refractometer reading. For this reason, concentration tests should be performed every 6 months at NOI Chemicals using the acid separation method.
